In the busyness of everyday life, it is easy to fill our hearts and minds with responsibilities, distractions, worries, and plans. Yet, as believers, we are called to make room for the presence and work of the Holy Spirit in our lives. The Holy Spirit is not simply a doctrine we believe; He is God’s presence with us, guiding, teaching, comforting, correcting, and empowering us.

Making room for the Holy Spirit begins with surrender. We must be willing to release our desire to control every situation and trust God with our lives. When we surrender our plans and expectations to Him, we create space for God to lead us in ways we may not have considered.

We also make room through stillness and prayer. In a world filled with constant noise, we need moments when we intentionally become quiet before God. Prayer is not only about speaking to God but also about developing a heart that is attentive to His direction. As we spend time in His presence, we become more sensitive to His voice and His prompting..

Making room for the Holy Spirit also requires obedience. It is not enough to sense God’s leading; we must be willing to respond. Sometimes the Holy Spirit may prompt us to forgive someone, encourage a hurting person, change a habit, step out in faith, or simply wait on God. Our willingness to obey creates greater room for His work in us.

Galatians 5:25 reminds us, “Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.” This is a picture of daily dependence. We do not simply invite the Holy Spirit into certain areas of our lives while keeping other areas closed. We surrender our thoughts, words, relationships, decisions, and desires to His leadership.

Making room for the Holy Spirit means making room for God to transform us. As we surrender, listen, and obey, He produces His character within us and enables us to live with greater love, peace, joy, patience, and faith.

Today, take a moment to ask yourself: Have I truly made room for the Holy Spirit, or have I filled every space with my own plans and distractions? Give Him room to speak. Give Him room to lead. Give Him room to work.

When we make room for the Holy Spirit, we make room for God to do in us what we could never accomplish on our own.
